Munjya 2 In The Works? Director Aditya Sarpotdar Has THIS To Say

Munjya, starring Abhay Verma and Sharvari, turned out to be one of the biggest surprise hits in recent years, making director Aditya Sarpotdar a key part of Maddock Films’ growing horror-comedy universe. Even two years after its release, fans are still talking about the film and eagerly following its journey. In a recent interview, Sarpotdar reflected on the impact of Munjya, the importance of meeting audience expectations, a sequel possibility, and how quickly trends in entertainment are changing. The filmmaker also shared an update on his next project, Shakti Shalini, revealing that filming has been completed and the film is now in post-production.

Is Munjya 2 happening?

Speaking to Variety India, director Aditya Sarpotdar opened up about the possibility of   2. He said he gets “a lot of messages” from fans and is happy to know that people still want to watch more from the world of the film. However, he stressed that he does not want to disappoint audiences with something “mediocre,” adding that he would rather not make a film than deliver one that is “not up to the standard.”

The filmmaker added that he is willing to wait as long as necessary, saying he would be fine being asked even “10 years later” why it wasn’t made, until he feels the script reaches a certain level of quality and offers something “totally new and beyond people’s expectations.”

Aditya Sarpotdar on making sequels

Sarpotdar said that he believes that creating a successful sequel today is about more than just continuing a story. He pointed out that “cinema changes, viewing patterns change, what is being consumed changes,” adding that content can quickly feel outdated by the time it reaches audiences.

According to the filmmaker, factors such as evolving audience tastes, innovations in storytelling, the rise of AI, and the sheer volume of content being created every day must all be considered while developing new projects. For now, his full attention is on Shakti Shalini, which has completed filming and entered post-production. Calling it a “massive shoot,” Sarpotdar said the project required meticulous planning and execution, and that he is now focused on getting the film right in the edit room, describing Shakti Shalini as “the big game.”
