Mumbai politics has once again heated up. Amidst the ongoing political tussle over Mumbai Mayor, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has made it clear that only Mahayuti will become the Mayor. In this series, on Sunday night Shinde met 29 newly elected corporators of Shiv Sena, who are staying at Taj Lands End Hotel in Bandra for the last two days. The opposition was continuously raising questions regarding this meeting, but Shinde completely rejected the allegations of any kind of bargaining with BJP.
Why were the councilors kept in a hotel in Mumbai?
Shiv Sena (UBT) alleged that the Shinde faction has kept the corporators in the hotel so that they can be saved from demolition and a better deal can be made with the BJP. However, the Shinde faction clarified that it is a three-day training session as many corporators have been elected for the first time. Shinde told the media, ‘Shiv Sena is not a party to be afraid. Others should worry about their corporators.’

In the recently held 227-member BMC elections, BJP won 89 seats, Shinde faction’s Shiv Sena 29 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) 65 seats and MNS 6 seats. Shinde described these results as an indication of the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Shinde asked the new corporators to work expeditiously on the ‘Turban-Free Mumbai’ plan, so that old tenancy disputes end and stalled redevelopment projects get momentum.
