The baleful plan

The police had earlier rescued the elderly upon getting a tip-off and admitted her to a nearby hospital.

Failing to do so, he along with his uncle, Gaikwad, boarded an auto-rickshaw to ferry his grandmother to Aarey colony. He paid the auto driver Rs 400 f0r dumping Yashoda in the garbage heap.

Gaikwad later regretted his act and ordered Shekale to bring his grandmother back. The brother- in -law claimed that Shekale lied that he brought her home and fed her.

Trio arrested

The trio were arrested on Wednesday under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, the official said.

CCTV footage showed that the accused first took the woman, a resident of suburban Borivali, to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital on the night of June 21, but when the hospital authorities refused to admit her, they took her to the Aarey forest and left her there. The woman is currently undergoing treatment in a civic hospital in Juhu,
