MS Dhoni to play against MI? Suresh Raina spills the beans on CSK legend’s return in IPL 2026

New Delhi: Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Suresh Raina recently spilt the beans on MS Dhoni’s return in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Dhoni has not featured for CSK in the IPL 2026 owing to a calf strain that he suffered ahead of the start of the season. The speculation surrounding his potential comeback continues to dominate headlines amid CSK’s campaign.

Ahead of the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side’s meeting against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, May 02, Raina dropped a strong hint that Dhoni could be back for the Men in Yellow in the crucial clash. The 44-year-old has been regularly spotted training with the team, but has yet to play his first game for CSK in the IPL 2026.

Earlier this week, reports claimed that Dhoni had attained full fitness but was delaying his return to the team to avoid disrupting the team’s balance amid a crucial phase in the season. CSK seemed to be back on track after a huge 103-run win against MI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 23, however, they slipped to a crushing defeat against the Gujarat Titans at home in their last game on April 26.

CSK are currently reeling at the 7th spot on the points table with six points after eight matches, battling to remain alive in the race for the playoffs. Speaking on JioHotstar ahead of CSK’s clash against MI on Saturday, Raina said Dhoni might play for the five-time champions at the Chepauk.

“He might play tonight,” said Raina, when asked if he had any inside information regarding Dhoni’s comeback, further fueling the speculation and raising the anticipation among fans, who are eagerly waiting for the legendary wicket-keeper batter’s return in the IPL 2026.
