Mrunal Thakur, Huma Qureshi’s 4-Year Delayed Film Pooja Meri Jaan To Release On ZEE5

Pooja Meri Jaan, headlined by Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi, is finally releasing. The Navjot Gulati directorial was placed on the back burner after its deal with JioCinema collapsed following its merger with Disney+ Hotstar. Now, after four years, the film is releasing on ZEE5. The date is yet to be announced, but the streaming platform unveiled its slate for the year on Sunday. Maddock Films’ Pooja Meri Jaan and Vaani Kapoor’s Sarvgunn Sampann will be streaming on the platform in the coming months. They were awaiting release dates for many years.

Pooja Meri Jaan secures release

  a thriller revolving around stalking and cybercrime, had wrapped up its shoot in 2022. Earlier this year, Navjot expressed his angst with the film’s delay in an interview with Variety India. The director said his father, on his deathbed, had asked when the movie was releasing. Back then, he had no answer.

Navjot further revealed that calls and messages to Maddock Films and Amar Kaushik, co-producer, went unanswered. Gulati explained that the delay in the release of his first film affected his career as nobody wanted to work with a director whose movie struggled to see the light of day.

Eventually, Pooja Meri Jaan is releasing on ZEE5. The film also stars Vikram Singh Chauhan, and Vijay Raaz. It is co-directed by Vipasha Arvind and written by Kanishka, and Navjot Gulati. Niren Bhatt has penned the additional screenplay and dialogues.

Apart from Pooja Meri Jaan, Hindi movies including Ghamasaan with Arshad Warsi, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Pratik Gandhi, Ikroop starring Mithila Palkar and Gauahar Khan, and Dalimb featuring Jitendra Kumar and Priya Bapat will be releasing on the streaming platform.

Satluj ban on ZEE5

Recently, ZEE5 backed Satluj, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky. The film was delayed for almost four years due to CBFC complications. However, within 48 hours of its surprise digital premiere, the Jaswant Singh Khalra biopic was pulled down in India. The platform still awaits an update on the return. Amid Satluj’s controversy, there are chatters going on regarding making censorship compulsory for OTT films and series.

While Pooja Meri Jaan remained unreleased, Maddock Films went on to release blockbuster films such as Zara Hatke Zara BachkeTeri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha JiyaStree 2, MunjyaChhaava, and Sky Force.
