Bihar MP Dr Bhim Singh met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday, pressing for key rail service enhancements for the state. The MP has proposed the launch of a direct train between Gaya and Surat, a daily run of the Udhna–Danapur Express, and the introduction of a Vande Bharat Sleeper service from Gaya to New Delhi.
In a memorandum submitted to the minister, Dr Singh highlighted that over five lakh migrant Biharis reside in Surat, Gujarat, and face travel difficulties during festivals due to the lack of a direct rail link from Gaya. He emphasised that a Gaya–Surat direct train would benefit both migrant workers and pilgrims, as Gayaji holds immense religious significance, especially during the Pitru Paksha Mela, which draws lakhs of devotees—including many from Gujarat.

The MP also called for the Udhna–Danapur Express, currently operating only twice a week, to run daily, citing heavy passenger demand and overcrowding.
Additionally, Dr Singh advocated for the launch of a Vande Bharat Sleeper train between Gaya and Delhi with a stoppage at Anugrah Narayan Road (Aurangabad) to aid NTPC officials, railway employees, and local travellers. He further stressed that the proposed route would improve connectivity for passengers from Palamu and Chatra districts in Jharkhand as well.
