Mother-son duo allegedly assaulted by police over helmet violation in Chikkodi

In a shocking case of alleged police brutality, a motorbike rider and his mother were reportedly beaten up by police personnel in Ankali village , located in Chikkodi taluk , for not wearing helmets.

The victims, Hrishikesh Limbigidad and his mother Susheela, were travelling from Sangli in Maharashtra to Chikkodi when they were stopped by policemen for the traffic violation. What followed, according to eyewitness accounts, was an unprovoked physical assault.

Sources claim that police officers began thrashing Hrishikesh on the spot. When his mother tried to shield him, she too was allegedly kicked and pushed. In a disturbing detail, Hrishikesh’s shirt was reportedly torn off before the officers beat him with a lathi.

The incident took a grim turn when Hrishikesh collapsed, allegedly due to a sudden spike in blood pressure brought on by panic. Realizing the severity of the situation, the officers are said to have dressed him in a new T-shirt before taking him to a hospital for treatment.

The alleged assault has sparked public outrage and raised serious questions about excessive use of force for minor traffic infractions. Locals have demanded that the officers involved be held accountable.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement. A formal complaint and medical report are awaited.
