Moringa i.e. drumstick is used extensively in South Indian food. This vegetable is considered to be full of many qualities and hence now it has become a favorite vegetable for fitness freaks. Moringa leaves are also a treasure trove of nutrients. In South India, its dry chutney is made, which is also known as ‘Murungai Keerai Podi’. This is a great recipe to add nutrition to your food, which not only tastes delicious but is also rich in many nutrients.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, 100 grams of raw Moringa leaves contain 9.4 grams of protein (beneficial for muscles). It contains 2 grams of fiber (improves digestion), 4 milligrams of iron (increases blood in the body), 42 milligrams of magnesium, 112 milligrams of phosphorus, 337 milligrams of potassium. Apart from this, it is a source of manganese, folate, vitamin B6 and vitamin C (contains it in good quantity). Now know the recipe for making Moringa leaves chutney.
What are the ingredients required?
To make Moringa leaves chutney, you need oil 1 tsp, gram dal 1 tbsp, unpeeled urad dal 1 tbsp, whole coriander 1 tbsp, cumin 1 tsp, black pepper 1 tsp, dry red chilli 5, moringa leaves 1-1/2 cups, tamarind a little as per taste, asafoetida 1/2 tsp, salt as per taste. Moringa leaves chutney
- First of all, you have to separate all the leaves from their stalks and then wash them thoroughly and dry them.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add chana dal and urad dal to it and fry while stirring until it turns golden.
- Then add the remaining ingredients like dry coriander, black pepper, cumin, dry chilli, deseeded tamarind and roast while stirring for a few minutes.

- When all your spices are roasted, then add the washed and dried drumstick leaves to it.
- Lower the flame and then cook while stirring until the leaves become crispy. This will remove all the moisture and the rawness of the leaves also goes away.
- When all the things are crisp and ready, take it out in a plate and then let it cool for some time.
- Put all the things in the grinder. Add asafoetida in it and also add salt. Now grind it coarsely. Your Moringa chutney is ready.
It won’t spoil for a long time
You can store this chutney for a long time by filling it in an airtight container. If stored properly and you keep it in the refrigerator, this chutney does not spoil for at least a month. You can enjoy it with things like hot rice mixed with desi ghee, paratha, dosa, khakhra, papad. If you want, you can also add roasted peanuts and sesame seeds to this chutney, which not only enhances the taste but also adds nutrients.
