Mongolia Extends Visa-Free Travel for 34 Countries Until 2027

After weeks of uncertainty, Mongolia has finally made its call. And it came just in time. The Mongolian government has officially extended its visa-free travel policy for citizens of 34 countries. The exemption will now stay in place until January 1, 2027.

The visa-free travel rule was first introduced in 2023 as a temporary move. Many travellers worried it might end in 2026. That will not happen.

Official Confirmation From Authorities

The confirmation came through a statement issued on December 31 by the Mongolian Embassy in France.

According to the announcement, citizens of 34 countries can continue to enter Mongolia without a visa for tourist stays of up to 30 days, as long as they hold ordinary passports.

This includes travellers from France, Spain, Portugal, Monaco, and several other European and non-European countries.

Why This Decision Matters for Travellers

Here’s the thing. This visa-free entry extension removes a lot of doubt.

Tourism operators and frequent travellers had been preparing for a possible return of visa requirements in 2026. That concern is now off the table.

By keeping the visa-free policy, Mongolia is clearly signalling that it wants to stay open and welcoming to international visitors.

For travellers, it means easier planning, fewer costs, and less paperwork.

Who Can Travel to Mongolia Visa-Free in 2026?

The list of eligible countries stays exactly the same. In 2026, citizens of the following 34 countries and territories can visit Mongolia without a visa for up to 30 days:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Monaco
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom

If you are from one of these countries, nothing changes. You can continue travelling to Mongolia for short tourist trips without applying for a visa.

How Visa-Free Entry to Mongolia Works

Visa-free travel allows short tourist visits without applying for a visa in advance. Travellers must meet basic entry rules at the border.

  • Stay limited to the approved visa-free period
  • Passport valid for at least six months
  • Proof of return or onward travel
  • Accommodation details may be requested

Special Visa-Free Rule for South Korean Travellers

There is one important exception with even more flexibility. As part of the government’s Visit Mongolia Year tourism program, South Korean nationals can enter Mongolia visa-free for up to 90 days.

This extended stay option is valid until December 31, 2026.

What Travellers Should Keep in Mind

Visa-free travel does not mean rule-free. Travellers should still carry a valid passport, proof of onward travel, and accommodation details. Border officials may ask for these on arrival.

But overall, this extension keeps Mongolia one of the easier destinations to visit in the region.

For anyone planning a trip to the steppes, deserts, or wide-open landscapes of Mongolia, the door stays open.
