New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced a prize money of Rs 7.5 crore for the Indian Under-19 cricket team that wins the 2026 Under-19 World Cup by defeating England in the final. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia expressed pride in the India Under-19 team for winning the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, remaining unbeaten in the entire tournament and defeating England in the final. He announced that BCCI will give a cash prize of Rs 7.5 crore to the team.
Money rains on invincible Team India
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said, “The entire nation and BCCI are feeling proud of our Under-19 team’s victory in the Under-19 World Cup 2026. We all are proud of the way our team defeated England in the final and remained unbeaten in the entire tournament. BCCI will give a cash reward of Rs 7.5 crore to the team.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated the Under-19 team for its excellent performance in the World Cup. PM said- “India’s cricket talent is shining! Proud of our U-19 team that brought home the World Cup. The team played very well throughout the tournament and showed exceptional skills. This victory will also inspire many young players. Best wishes to the players for their upcoming endeavours.”
Vaibhav Suryavanshi rained runs in Under-19 World Cup
India U19 defeated England U19 by 100 runs in the final to win the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 in Harare, Zimbabwe, which is their sixth title. The young Indian team delivered a record-breaking performance in this high-voltage final. Batting first, India posted a mammoth score of 411/9, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi scoring a brilliant 175 off just 80 balls with the help of 15 fours and 15 sixes. Captain Ayush Mhatre added 53 runs in 51 balls, while Abhigyan Kundu contributed a quickfire 40 runs in 31 balls. England’s Caleb Faulkner fought bravely, scoring 115, but the visitors fell short of the mammoth target of 412 runs.
Record of most sixes made in U19 final
India’s strong performance also set a new record for the most number of sixes hit in a Youth ODI final, with the team hitting 31 sixes — much more than the previous record of 23 sixes. The win joins India’s Under-19 World Cup wins in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022, while England are yet to win their second title since 1998.
