Mokama Assembly Elections 2025: The conflict between the legacy of Bahubali Anant Singh and the slogan of change of BJP has intensified. Caste equation, Suraj Bhan’s entry and the game of Bahubali versus change is making Mokama the hottest seat in Bihar.
Mokama Assembly Election 2025: Mokama assembly seat has always been in the headlines in Bihar politics. The reason is – dominance of powerful leaders, caste equation and changing game of power. Even in 2025, the competition here is going to be very interesting. On one hand, there is the political legacy of Anant Singh, while on the other hand, BJP is preparing to enter the field with the slogan of change.
Previous election history (Mokama Election Results 2010, 2015, 2020)
- 2010: Anant Singh (JDU) – 51,564 votes, won. Sonam Devi (LJP)-42,610 votes, lost.
- 2015: Anant Singh (Independent) – 54,005 votes, won. Neeraj Kumar (JDU)-35,657 votes, lost.
- 2020: Anant Singh (RJD)-78,721 votes, won. Rajeev Lochan Singh (JDU)-42,964 votes, lost.
Note: This makes it clear that the votes in Mokama are not cast in the name of the party but in the name of the candidate.
Equation of 2022 by-election
After Anant Singh’s membership was cancelled, his wife Neelam Devi (RJD) took the field and defeated BJP’s Sonam Devi by 17 thousand votes. However, this victory was by a smaller margin than before, which was a sign of Anant Singh’s weakening grip.
Mokama Caste Equation
- Total voters in Mokama: 2.68 lakh
- Major castes: Bhumihar, Yadav, Kurmi
- Other influential voters: Muslims, Dhanuk, Paswan
Note: Anant Singh himself comes from Bhumihar community. BJP is also making inroads among Bhumihar voters. Whereas RJD gets the benefit of Muslim-Yadav (MY) equation.
Bahubali Factor: Anant Singh vs Surajbhan Singh
Anant Singh alias ‘Chhote Sarkar’ has dominated Mokama for two decades. Many criminal cases are registered against him, but his influence among the public remained intact. Now the possible entry of BJP-backed former strongman Suraj Bhan Singh has made the contest more complicated.
BJP’s new strategy
BJP is now creating a narrative of “clean image vs Bahubali” against Bahubali politics. For the first time in 2022, it fielded its own candidate and now it can play a big bet in 2025.
Education and assets of the candidates
- Anant Singh: Not one or two but 38 criminal cases are pending against leader Anant Singh, who studied till matriculation. Talking about assets, he has movable and immovable assets worth Rs 68.56 crore. Not only this, he also has a loan of more than Rs 17 crore.
- Neelam Devi: Inter pass, assets worth crores declared, new in politics but benefit of Bahubali image.
- Sonam Devi (BJP): Limited education, from Bhumihar community, the face of BJP’s clean image.
The biggest question of 2025
Will Mokama repeat the politics of Bahubali again in 2025 or will BJP be able to create a new wind of change? This is the biggest mystery of the election war.
