Mohammed Siraj hits Hat-trick of Sixes as India win Warm-Up thriller against Sri Lanka XI

Mohammed Siraj produced an unexpected batting masterclass as India wrapped up their preparations for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka with a thrilling six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka Cricket XI in their three-day warm-up match at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo on Sunday.

Chasing 207 after Sri Lanka XI declared their second innings at 200 for six, India appeared set for a draw when they needed 23 runs from the final two overs. However, Siraj had other ideas.

The fast bowler walked in with India on 191 for four and immediately shifted the momentum. He smashed a six off Sonal Dinusha in the 44th over before taking complete control in the final over.

India needed 16 runs from six balls when Siraj faced Keshara Nuwantha. The pacer launched three successive sixes – over deep mid-wicket, straight down the ground and then another towering hit – to complete the chase in spectacular fashion. Siraj finished unbeaten on 32 from just 15 deliveries, hitting four sixes in total.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal provided India with an aggressive start, scoring 61 from 46 balls after being dismissed for a duck in the first innings. Shubman Gill, back at the crease, made a composed 44, while Rishabh Pant contributed 28 and Dhruv Jurel added 17 as India gave several players valuable time in the middle.

India had declared their first innings at 357 for six, with Devdutt Padikkal producing the standout performance with an unbeaten 142. Sri Lanka Cricket XI had responded with 363 for eight declared, setting up an intriguing final day.

Although warm-up matches are primarily about preparation rather than results, Siraj’s explosive finish provided India with a memorable ending. His ability to clear the ropes under pressure also underlined the batting potential available lower down the order.

India will now turn their attention to the two-Test series against Sri Lanka, with the opening Test scheduled to begin in Galle on August 15.
