New Delhi: Mohammed Shami impressed straightaway with first-ball success on his debut for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Wednesday. Shami struck on the very first ball of his first over in LSG’s opener against Delhi Capitals (DC), removing KL Rahul on a duck at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
After LSG were bowled out for a low-key total of 141 runs, batting first in the contest, Shami got his team off to a dream start with the ball during DC’s run chase. Opening the bowling for the hosts, the veteran India pacer picked up a wicket on the first ball in his debut game. DC opener Rahul got caught by Mohsin Khan on the boundary rope off Shami’s first ball.
It was an outswinger from Shami, and Rahul went hard on the drive. The ball flew towards Mohsin at third man after a thick edge. The fielder made no mistake with the catch, and Rahul was sent back on a duck, handing Shami and LSG a perfect start. The DC opener was left stunned as Shami erupted into a celebration after the big wicket.

It was a crucial wicket for the Lucknow Super Giants as they needed early breakthroughs, defending a low-key total. Rahul’s wicket shifted the momentum in LSG’s favour after the hosts’ poor show with the bat at the Ekana Stadium. The early dismissal also triggered a top-order collapse as DC lost four wickets in the Powerplay to be left reeling at 26/4 at one stage in the run-chase.
After Shami dismissed Rahul on a duck, Mohsin struck in his first over to dismiss Nitish Rana on 15 off 7 balls. Pacer Prince Yadav then bagged two wickets in the next over to break the back of the DC batting line-up. Prince dismissed Pathum Nissanka (1) and DC skipper Axar Patel on a duck in the same over to reduce the visitors to tatters.
