The Central Government has approved the expansion of the 5th phase of Delhi Metro. There will be an expansion of 16 km on 3 new corridors at a cost of ₹12,015 crore, in which 13 new stations will be built. With this the metro network will exceed 400 km.

New Delhi: The Central Government has approved the expansion of the fifth phase of Delhi Metro. This expansion project will be implemented on three routes over a length of approximately 16 kilometers. It is estimated to cost around Rs 12,015 crore. Under the fifth phase expansion, 13 new stations will be built in Delhi Metro. Of these, ten stations will be underground and three will be elevated. With this the total length of Delhi Metro network will exceed 400 kilometers. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information after the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The development of the fifth phase will be like this

Under this expansion, three new corridors have been included in Phase 5-A. These will be from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, from Aerocity to Airport Terminal 1 and from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. The target is to complete these projects within three years. At present there are 12 metro lines in Delhi Metro. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav claimed that with the fifth phase expansion, the Delhi Metro network will cross the 400 km mark and become one of the top five metro networks in the world by serving more than 65 lakh passengers every day.

The extension of Kalindi-Tughlakabad line will provide direct connectivity to Gurugram to passengers coming from Noida and Faridabad. Ashwini Vaishnav said that after the completion of the section from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, people coming for work from nearby states will be able to reach the duty path more easily. The minister claimed that if this new project becomes a reality, the problem of traffic jam and pollution of Delhi will be solved to a great extent.

The Railway Minister said, “We know how much Delhi Metro has improved the lives of the city’s residents and those traveling in the city. With this expansion, a new chapter will be added in the history of Delhi Metro.” According to official figures, an average of 65 lakh people use Delhi Metro every day. The highest number of people used the metro on August 28, 2023, when 81.87 lakh people traveled in just one day.
