‘Missing Son’ Scam: How Rajasthan Man Lived With Families In Ahmedabad, Ghaziabad And Dehradun With Fake Kidnapping Tale

Ahmedabad News: Kalupur police in Ahmedabad have filed a case against a Rajasthan man who allegedly posed as long-lost family members of several households across different states.

The accused, identified as Indraraj Chunilal Meghwal from Sri Ganganagar district, is said to have deceived families in Ahmedabad, Ghaziabad, Dehradun and parts of Rajasthan.

According to a Times Of India report, the matter surfaced two weeks ago when a man introducing himself as Raju approached Kalupur police with a handwritten note. He claimed that around 25 to 30 years ago, he had been taken by a truck driver from Ahmedabad to Haryana, where he worked at a cattle farm. He told police that he had no memory of his parents and requested help in finding his family.

Police circulated his photographs on social media to trace his background. Soon after, a woman from Surat, Pushpa Suryavanshi, identified him as her missing son. When confronted, the man confirmed her claim, calling her his mother and asking to be taken home.

Past record emerges

While local police prepared to conduct a DNA test, authorities in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, contacted them with a warning. They informed that the same individual had previously misled families there and was booked in December 2024 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for similar offences.

The Times Of India report cited Inspector H R Vaghela of Kalupur police as stating that, Meghwal later admitted that his parents had died when he was eight. After working briefly as a daily wage labourer, he began fabricating stories to gain shelter. According to police, he lived with at least three families in Rajasthan, Ghaziabad and Dehradun, staying for a few months at each place before leaving when suspicions arose.

Police clarified that Meghwal did not steal valuables but misrepresented himself to families by pretending to be their missing relative. A case has been registered under Sections 212, 319(2) and 336(3) of the BNS for giving false information, cheating by personation and forgery.

Police said DNA testing will be carried out to verify his claims in the Ahmedabad case.
