Mohammad Iqbal of Ichwal village of Ghazipur had gone missing 22 years ago. Now his location has been found in Bangladesh, where he is working as a servant in the mosque. The family is not only happy but also worried due to the news of his being alive.

Ghazipur: The son, whose family had almost given up hope of his return 22 years ago, has now received a call from Bangladesh. When the news of Mohammad Iqbal, resident of Ichwal village of Saidpur block of Ghazipur district, reached the family, there was surprise along with happiness. On one hand, the family is relieved that their missing son is alive, while on the other hand, financial constraints have dashed their hopes as they are in dire need of money to bring Iqbal back to India.

Went missing in 2003, searched in every tomb and mosque

In the year 2003, mentally weak Iqbal suddenly disappeared from home. The family members searched everywhere, prayed for him in tombs and mosques, but no trace was found. Eventually, accepting defeat, he lodged a missing complaint with the police. The family waited for years, but no news came.

Investigation revealed that Iqbal is currently working as a servant in a mosque in Bangladesh. Club chairman Ambrish Nag Biswas contacted the local police and got Iqbal’s identity confirmed.

Clue found with the help of Kolkata Police and NGO

Kolkata Police contacted Khanpur Police, after which old files were opened. When the police contacted the family, everyone was shocked. Years later, when he saw Iqbal’s photograph, he had both tears in his eyes and a smile on his face.

Sister said, ‘Wherever you live, be happy’

Iqbal’s sister Shabnam spoke to her brother in Bangladesh. Emotions ran high during the conversation. He said, “Our mother Najma Begum and father Kamaluddin are now old and ill. We are very happy to see our brother alive. Now we just pray that wherever he is, he should be happy.”

Financial crisis became the biggest obstacle

The biggest problem of the family is that they do not have enough money to bring Iqbal to India. They want the government or any organization to help so that their estranged son can return to the soil of his country after 22 years.
