Minakshi Hooda beats Alice Pumphrey to storm into World Boxing Championships semis, confirms fourth medal for India

New Delhi: Minakshi Hooda defeated Alice Pumphrey in the 48 kg category on Friday, September 12, to secure the fourth medal for India in the ongoing World Boxing Championship. With this win, the boxer qualified for the semi-finals and guaranteed India at least a bronze medal in the event.

The U19 World Champion Pumphrey didn’t bother Minakshi much, as she used her long reach and fought the majority of the time on the back foot. The Indian boxer also landed some clean straight shots to keep ahead of the local fighter in every round.

Minakshi won the bout by unanimous decision, and despite the local support from the crowd for Pumphrey, the Indian star didn’t lose her cool and won the fight comfortably.

After this win, Minakshi joined Jasmine Lamboria (57 kg), Nupur Sheoran (80 kg), and Pooja Rani (80 kg) in confirming medals for India.
