MG Windsor EV Is India’s No 1 EV – Beats Every Tata, Mahindra & Other EV Offerings

JSW MG Motor India recently announced a significant milestone for the MG Windsor EV, marking its 10th consecutive month as the nation’s top-selling electric vehicle.

In July 2025, the model achieved unprecedented sales, reaching a peak of 4,308 units, the highest since its introduction to the market.

The Windsor’s appeal is evident in its extensive range of variants, catering to diverse customer needs and preferences. Available in five different models – Excite (38kWh), Exclusive (38kWh), Essence (38kWh), Exclusive Pro (52.9kWh), and Essence Pro (52.9kWh), the Windsor offers flexibility with both a fixed battery option and a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription.

Detailed Pricing Strategy

The pricing strategy for the Windsor EV is meticulously planned, offering two distinct options for potential buyers. For those opting for the BaaS model, the costs start at Rs 10 lakh for the Excite (38kWh) variant, with a per-kilometer charge of Rs 3.9, up to the Essence Pro (52.9kWh) variant priced at Rs 13.31 lakh plus Rs 4.5 per kilometer.

For customers preferring the traditional model, the Windsor’s prices are equally competitive. Starting from Rs 14 lakh for the Excite (38kWh) variant and extending up to Rs 18.31 lakh for the Essence Pro (52.9kWh), these options cater to a broad spectrum of budgets and preferences, ensuring the Windsor’s accessibility to a wide audience.

Enhanced Performance and Safety Features

At the core of the Windsor’s appeal is its impressive performance metrics. Powered by a permanent-magnet synchronous motor located on the front axle, it delivers 136PS and 200Nm of torque. Buyers have the choice between two battery packs: a 37.9kWh unit with an ARAI-certified range of 332km and a larger 52.9kWh pack, boasting a range of 449km.

Safety and convenience features are paramount in the Windsor, equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, and disc brakes on all wheels for enhanced safety. The top-tier Essence Pro variant further includes Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), offering lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and emergency braking, providing peace of mind for drivers and passengers.

The Windsor is complemented by flexible charging solutions, including a 7.4kW AC charger for a complete charge within 7-9 hours and support for DC fast charging that can replenish the battery to 80% in just over 50 minutes.

Inside, the Windsor EV boasts a 15.6-inch infotainment display, wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and ventilated front seats among other luxurious features. The addition of a panoramic infinity glass roof and 256-colour ambient lighting enhances the driving experience, making every journey in the Windsor a pleasure.

As part of JSW MG’s electric vehicle lineup, the Windsor, Comet and ZS EV are sold through regular MG dealerships while the M9, and Cyberster are sold through the firm’s premium MG Select outlets. This diverse portfolio underlines JSW MG’s commitment to leading the electric vehicle revolution in India, offering sustainable, innovative, and accessible transport solutions.

The Windsor’s consistent sales growth and its contribution to JSW MG’s market share increase, from 28% in the first quarter of 2025 to 32% in the second quarter, reflect the vehicle’s strong market position. With nearly 36,000 units sold, the Windsor’s success story is a testament to the rising demand for electric vehicles in India, setting a new benchmark for the industry.
