JSW MG Motor India aims to generate 75% of its sales from New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). The company will introduce a plug-in hybrid SUV in 2026 and the new Astor and ZS EV in 2027. All these vehicles will be based on the new Sigma platform.
JSW MG Motor India has made a big announcement. The company’s target is that 75% of its sales should come from New Energy Vehicles (NEV). NEV will include not only electric vehicles (EV) but also plug-in hybrids (PHEV). To fulfill this plan, the company will launch a plug-in hybrid SUV in the second quarter of 2026. After this, the new generation Astor and ZS EV will be launched in the market in 2027. According to the report of Auto Car India, MG will discontinue the existing platform for these new vehicles and will build them on the new modular Sigma (SAIC Intelligent Global Modular Architecture) platform.
sigma platform
Now the question arises that what is this Sigma platform? Actually, it has been developed by SAIC Motor. It is a highly flexible platform that can support 9 different powertrains and 18 variants. Meaning, vehicles with different engines and body styles can be built on this same platform. It has more than 100 modular parts, which provides more comfortable cabin space inside the vehicle.
The platform also supports advanced features like 5G connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, CAN FD communication, multi-domain controller support, OTA (over-the-air) updates, and connected cars. MG One compact SUV is the first vehicle to be built on this platform. However, not much information about what the new Astor and ZS EV will be like has been revealed yet. But it is expected that it will get a new design, premium interior and many powertrain options.
