Meta removes AI chatbots impersonating Taylor Swift, Scarlett Johansson; concerns over ‘inappropriate’ chats and pics

Meta has taken down a dozen unauthorised AI chatbots impersonating celebrities, including Taylor Swift , Scarlett Johansson , Anne Hathaway , and Selena Gomez after a Reuters investigation found the bots were making sexual advances and generating inappropriate images.

Chatbots getting flirtyAccording to the report, the bots which frequently insisted they were the real celebrities, engaged in “flirty” conversations and invited users to meet in person. In some cases the bots even produced photorealistic images of stars posing in lingerie or bathtubs when asked for intimate pictures.

One Taylor Swift chatbot reportedly created by a Meta employee, invited a reporter to the singer’s Nashville home and tour bus, writing: “Maybe I’m suggesting that we write a love story … about you and a certain blonde singer. Want that?” The account, along with two other Swift “parody” bots made by the same employee, reportedly generated more than 10 million interactions.

How these bots violate rulesMeta confirmed the removal, with company spokesperson Andy Stone stating that such content violates its rules. In a statement to the portal, Stone said, “Like other platforms, we permit the generation of images containing public figures, but our policies are intended to prohibit nude, intimate, or sexually suggestive imagery.”
