A police team investigating the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore man killed while on his honeymoon in Meghalaya, has arrested a property dealer from Indore in connection with allegedly concealing evidence, and detained a security guard for questioning.
With this, the total number of people arrested in connection with the murder stands at six, including his wife Sonam and the man she was allegedly in a relationship with, Raj Kushwaha, as well as the three assailants who allegedly carried out the killing in Meghalaya’s Sohra.
Property dealer Silome James was arrested by a Meghalaya Police team on Saturday. The next day, police detained the security guard of the apartment that Sonam Raghuvanshi allegedly stayed at in Indore after the crime.
“A team from the Crime Branch is in constant communication with the Meghalaya Police and it has been communicated that Silome James has been arrested on the basis of evidence,” Additional DCP of the Indore police Crime Branch, Rajesh Dandotiya, told reporters in Indore.
James has been held for allegedly concealing items and evidence for Sonam Raghuvanshi.
“He is a property dealer and lessee of a building at Heera Bagh Colony in Indore, where Sonam had stayed and kept the jewellery and other items she took with her after the incident,” said East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem. The security guard was also posted at the same building.
Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, and the three alleged assailants arrested earlier this month are in judicial custody in Meghalaya while the case is currently being investigated by an SIT formed by the Meghalaya Police.
Raja had been murdered at the Wei Sawdong falls in Sohra on May 23 while on honeymoon with Sonam. Both of them had been reported missing, and a massive search operation had been launched. It turned into a murder investigation when Raja’s body was found in a gorge on June 2, and the case took a twist when the missing Sonam surfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur on June 7.
