Every year, thousands of aspirants enroll in coaching centres to prepare for one of India’s toughest examinations -UPSC Civil Services Examination.

Some of the many well-known names of the coaching centres are Drishti IAS, Rau’s IAS. On the rising list of institutes is Tathasthu Institute of Civil Services (ICS), which has been established by Dr. Tanu Jain, a former civil servant. Well, the doctor-turned-IAS Officer Tanu secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 648 in her third attempt in 2014.

Tanu Jain, originally from the Sadar area in Delhi, attended her schooling at Cambridge School in Delhi. She then completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Surgery (BDS) from Subharti Medical College, Meerut. Tanu completed her education in medicine but did not pursue a career in medicine; instead, she transitioned into civil services. With purpose and conviction, she transitioned into her goal of preparing for the UPSC exam and began her incredible journey into the civil service field.

Initially, Jain cleared the UPSC Preliminary Examination with only 2 months of preparation on her first attempt. However, she didn’t manage to clear the Mains that year. She was initially disappointed but later was committed to preparation. Her commitment to preparation did pay off with her third attempt in 2014 when she secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 648.

In 2015, Tanu began her new career as a government employee, with her first posting in the Armed Forces Headquarters Service. She has also been an Assistant Director at DRDO. Currently, Tanu runs the Tathasthu Institute of Civil Services (ICS), which aims to support aspiring civil servants. In addition, she conducts a mock interview process at the world-renowned Drishti IAS coaching, which prepares candidates for one of the most challenging stages in the UPSC examination.

Dr. Tanu Jain, former IAS officer, has chosen to take a new path that lies outside of government service. Although an IAS officer brings prestige and recognition, Jain felt a deeper urge to contribute to society in a more profound and personal way. After spending seven years in the civil services, she made the bold choice to resign, driven by a purpose that went beyond the powers and privileges of her position.
