Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has become the first Indian actor to achieve billionaire status, as per 2025’s Hurun India Rich List.
The report shows Shah Rukh Khan as the richest actor in the world, with staggering net worth that stands at $1.4 billion. However, despite this milestone, SRK is not the wealthiest person in Bollywood. The title goes to this powerhouse of the Hindi film industry whose net worth has quietly surpassed several iconic figures like Amitabh Bachchan, Gulshan Kumar, Aditya Chopra, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and more.
Bollywood’s richest man is…
As per the Hurun India Rich List 2025 and Forbes, producer and entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala is the richest person in Bollywood. Reportedly, he has a net worth of $1.5 billion (Rs 13300 crore approximately). This makes him richer than the three Khans of Bollywood- Shah Rukh Khan ($1.4 billion), Salman Khan ($390 million) and Aamir Khan ($220 million). He has also surpassed other major industry figures like Gulshan Kumar (approx $900 million) and Aditya Chopra ($800 million), making him richer than some of the most influential film families in India.
Who is Ronnie Screwvala?
But Ronnie Screwvala’s journey to success was anything but easy. Long before becoming a billionaire, he was selling toothbrushes. Born in Bombay in 1956, Screwvala began his entrepreneurial journey in the later 1970s by manufacturing toothbrushes. His breakthrough came in the early 1980s when colour televisions made its way into Indian households during the Asian Games. Seeing this as a golden opportunity, he became one of the early pioneers of cable television in India’s metro cities, which marked his first step into media and entertainment sector.
In 1990, he founded UTV, which later on became one of India’s most influential entertainment companies. Under UTV Motion Pictures, he bankrolled several successful films like Lakshya, Swades, Rang De Basanti, Jodhaa Akbar, and Fashion, among others. In 2012, Screwvala sold UTV to Disney in a billion-dollar deal and moved away from the company. Screwvala then founded RSVP Movies, under which he has backed several critically acclaimed films like Kedarnath, Uri: The Surgical Strike, The Sky Is Pink, and Sam Bahadur. But his source of income isn’t just limited to cinema. He has found and invested in other successful ventures including UpGrad, Unilazer and USports.
On the professional front, his most recent release was Azaad starring Ajay Devgn and Diana Penty, along with debutants Rasha Thadani and Aman Devgan.
