Meena Kumari Biopic: Director Siddharth P Malhotra REACTS To Triptii Dimri, Saif Ali Khan Casting Rumours

Late legend Meena Kumari’s biopic has long been in the pipeline. However, fans have been eagerly waiting to know more about the project.

Amid this, recent reports claimed that there was finally an update on the film’s casting. Reportedly, Triptii Dimri was in talks for the lead role while Saif Ali Khan had been approached to play director Kamal Amrohi. However, the biopic’s director, Siddharth P Malhotra, has rubbished the rumours and clarified that they are yet to lock the film’s cast.

Meena Kumari Biopic Casting: Director Clears Air

Amid reports of Triptii Dimri and Saif Ali Khan being cast in as Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi, respectively, director Siddharth P Malhotra wrote, “Absolutely touched and delighted by the love and interest around Kamal Aur Meena.” However, he made a humble request to “stop the speculation” and urged everyone not to believe unconfirmed reports.

He added, “We are actively working on the film, and the cast, studio and other details will be officially announced by us once everything is signed and locked. Unnecessary conjecture doesn’t help the film, the actors or the studios involved. When we have something official to share, we promise you’ll hear it from us first. With gratitude for all the love and support.”

Kamal Aur Meena, based on the legendary actress Meena Kumari and filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, was officially announced in September 2024.

Talking about the project, Siddharth earlier said, “Kamal Aur Meena – a cinematic experience that promises to capture one of the most iconic love stories in the history of Hindi cinema. Kamal Aur Meena will bring to life the epic, real-life romance between the legendary director and screenwriter Kamal Amrohi and the celebrated actress Meena Kumari. With access to over 500 handwritten letters exchanged between Kamal Sahaab and Meenaji as well as personal journals detailing their life together the insights and research we have in telling this story in invaluable. It’s a profound privilege to direct this incredible true story, though the responsibility is immense.”

 

 

Kamal and Meena had one of Hindi cinema’s most intense and complicated relationships. The filmmaker met the actress through Ashok Kumar and their bond deepened while Meena was recovering from a 1951 car accident. They secretly married on February 14, 1952, when Meena was 18 and Kamal was 34. The director was already married and had three children.

The couple collaborated on iconic films like Daaera and Pakeezah.

Their marriage later became strained over the years, eventually leading to their separation in 1964.
