Medical college, university and expressway… Shahjahanpur’s speed left everyone behind! | Up Shahjahanpur Development Ganga Expressway University Medical College

Shahjahanpur News Update: Shahjahanpur, the land of revolutionaries, has now become the new identity of development. Medical colleges, universities, Ganga Expressway, new development of Zari-Zardozi from ODOP and industrial investment have created new employment opportunities.

Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh has once been the birthplace of those revolutionaries who threw themselves into the fight for freedom with the ‘desire for freedom’. But the irony was that after independence this district remained a symbol of neglect and stagnation for a long time. Hopes were raised, then dashed. But the picture has changed in the last few years. Now this district seems to be creating a new identity on the basis of education, industry, craftsmanship and infrastructure. This change did not happen in a day. Administrative will, implementation of schemes and local participation have together connected Shahjahanpur to a new stream of development.

Big step in education: from college to university

The prestigious Swami Shukdevanand College of the district is now going to be developed as a university. This decision is being considered a milestone for the local students. Nisha, an MA student, says that earlier it was a compulsion to go to Bareilly or Lucknow for higher education. The expense of studying abroad, security concerns and family pressure were all challenges. Now with the formation of a university, local students will get quality education in their own city. Political Science student Upendra Singh says that this decision has brought new hope for the youth from economically weak families. He believes that availability of higher education will directly increase employment opportunities.

Zari-Zardozi got new life

The zari-zardozi art of Shahjahanpur was once known for its intricate embroidery, but due to lack of market and resources, this handicraft was almost on the verge of extinction. An attempt was made to revive this art under the One District One Product Scheme (ODOP) of the state government.

Artisan Mohammad Yasin Khan says that his work which was once running with the support of 4-5 artisans is now providing employment to more than 50 people. Along with the country, orders are also being received from Dubai and Saudi Arabia. Their income has increased seven to eight times. Today many artisans are earning Rs 25 to 30 thousand per month. This change in the local economy is not only limited to increasing income, but it has also given respect and new identity to the traditional art.

Medical College in the name of Pt. Ram Prasad Bismil

The medical college established in the memory of revolutionary Ram Prasad Bismil has strengthened the health infrastructure of the district. According to Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal of the college, with the 100-bed hospital and modern lab facilities, treatment of serious diseases has now become possible at the local level. Earlier, patients had to travel to big cities, which resulted in loss of both time and money. Now not only Uttar Pradesh but students from other states are also studying MBBS from here.

Ganga Expressway and Industrial Development

Ganga Expressway is considered to play an important role in giving new momentum to the district. This expressway is directly connecting Shahjahanpur with other major cities of the state. With increased transportation accessibility, investment and business possibilities have also increased. In the industrial area, UltraTech Cement factory, sugar mill and other units have provided employment to thousands of youth. The development of the industrial corridor has provided stability to the local economy.

Benefits of schemes to women and villagers

Under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, sewing-embroidery kits have been provided to many women. Beneficiary Sunita Pandey says that through this scheme she has become self-reliant and is contributing to the family income. Apart from this, under the ‘Drone Didi’ initiative, women are earning income by spraying fertilizers in the agricultural sector. Due to this, positive changes are also visible in the rural economy.

Law and order and administrative activism

According to District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh, law and order has been given priority. The public hearing system has been made active, so that complaints can be resolved quickly. Local people say that the increased sense of security has strengthened confidence in both business and education sectors. The administration is also said to be active regarding the problems of sugarcane and potato farmers. Emphasis has been laid on transparency and timeliness in the payment process, which has improved the economic condition of farmers.
