Matthew Breetzke equals Navjot Singh Sidhu’s 38-year-old ODI feat with impressive fifty vs Australia

New Delhi: South African batter Matthew Breetzke completed his fourth consecutive fifty-plus score in the second ODI match against Australia at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay on Friday, August 22.

The 26-year-old is playing his fourth ODI of his career and is enjoying his batting in the 50-over format. He has equalled India’s Navjot Singh Sidhu’s 38-year-old record of scoring consecutive fifty-plus scores in his first four ODI matches.

Breetzke also became the first-ever player to complete fifty-plus scores in his first four ODI games, as Sidhu didn’t get to bat in the third ODI of his career. Breetzke made his ODI debut in February earlier this year and notched up 150 runs against New Zealand.

The young batter then followed it up with a sensational 83-run knock against Pakistan and continued the same form in the first two ODI games against Australia. Sidhu achieved this feat during the 1987 World Cup, scoring 73 runs against Australia, 75 runs against New Zealand, 51 runs against Australia, and 55 runs against Zimbabwe in his first four ODI innings.
