Bengaluru: Kengeri Police has arrested a vicious person who cheated a software engineer (Bengaluru Techie) of Rs 1.53 crore on the pretext of marriage. The name of the arrested accused is Vijay Raj Gowda, who is a resident of Kunigal. The accused’s father Boregowda and wife Soumya were also involved in this fraud. This shocking thing has come to light that the entire family together has cheated the girl.
Trap started from matrimonial site
The software engineer, resident of Whitefield, met Vijay Raj Gowda through a matrimonial site in March 2024. He described himself as a big businessman and won the girl’s trust by falsely claiming to have assets worth Rs 715 crore. Not only this, he gained the trust of his father by calling him a retired Tehsildar.
Called his wife ‘sister’!
The fraud conspiracy was so terrible that Vijay Raj Gowda, despite being married and the father of a child, introduced his wife Sowmya to the techie girl as his ‘sister’. The accused called the girl to Kengeri and staged a marriage fraud by introducing her to his wife and father. The fraudster’s father Boregowda also convinced the girl by saying ‘I guarantee your money’.
Loot worth crores in the name of ED case
As the acquaintance increased, accused Vijay Raj started his real game. Showing fake court documents, he said, ‘An Enforcement Directorate (ED) case is going on regarding my property and the bank accounts have been frozen.’ He first took Rs 15,000 saying he needed emergency money. Later, he got a loan in the name of the girl and also extorted a total of Rs 1.75 crore from her friends in installments in the name of business. It is being said that out of this he returned only Rs 22 lakh. After this, he kept pretending to return the money for a few days and also started demanding more money. But, suspecting fraud, the girl did not pay any more money.
How was the secret revealed?
When the girl asked for the rest of her money back, the accused started threatening her. When the girl became suspicious, when she investigated his background, the truth came to light that he was already married and the person whom he was calling his ‘sister’ was none other than his wife. The girl immediately lodged a complaint at the Whitefield Police Station (Bengaluru Whitefield Police Station), after which the case was transferred to the Kengeri Police Station. At present, Kengeri police has arrested Vijay Raj Gowda and is interrogating him. The search for his absconding father and wife is ongoing.
