Mathura: Boat capsizes after hitting bridge; 12 missing, 8 rescued

New Delhi: A boat carrying devotees overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura after it collided with a pontoon bridge. It left several people missing.

The incident took place when the devotees were travelling from Vrindavan to Devraha Baba’s monastery. According to reports, the boat hit a pontoon bridge that was under repair, causing it to lose balance and capsize.

Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information about the accident and began rescue operations. Fire brigade personnel managed to rescue eight people safely from the river. A team from the State Disaster Response Force has also been deployed at the site to assist in the search. Officials said efforts are underway to trace 12 missing devotees, and the operation is continuing.

According to preliminary reports, the pontoon bridge involved in the accident was under repair at the time of the collision. Authorities are likely to investigate the circumstances that led to the mishap. Local administration and emergency teams remain at the scene as rescue work continues.
