Massive traffic jam on Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway as people head home for Sankranti

Hyderabad: Traffic rush was observed on Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway on Saturday morning as residents left for their home towns and villages in Andhra Pradesh for the harvest festival of Sankranti.

As per reports, it took about two hours to reach from LB Nagar, Hyderabad to Pantangi Toll Plaza in Choutuppal on NH-65. Vehicle movement at Pantangi plaza was bumper to bumper and toll fee collection is being done through FASTag scanners. 10 out of 16 toll gates at Pantangi were allocated to vehicles moving from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. Vehicle movement was also slow at Korlapahad toll plaza on NH-65.

 

Traffic stalled at Peddakaparthy:

Meanwhile, underpass bridge and service road construction work is underway at various points on the  national highway, leading to diversions.

 

At Peddakaparthy, traffic was stalled for six kilometres due to the construction works. Police are advising motorists to use alternative routes. They suggested reaching Chityal via Bhongir and Ramannapet, and those going towards Guntur and Ongole should travel via the Sagar highway.

 

Rush at Hyderabad bus stations:

With the commencement of Sankranthi holidays, congestion has also increased at MGBS and JBS bus stations with rush seen at Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Uppal, and Tarnaka junctions. TGSRTC is operating special buses to accommodate the increased traffic. Meanwhile, railway stations have also seen increased crowds.
