Maruti Suzuki recently shocked Indian customers by introducing the 2026 Baleno facelift with Level-2 ADAS. Though it’s only available on the top-spec Alpha (O) trim, it was still a completely unexpected addition from Maruti. This also made the Baleno the only car in its class to get Level-2 ADAS, something that Maruti can be genuinely proud of. Now though, it looks like Maruti wants to make ADAS a standard offering across all its models. Here’s how it plans to do so.
Suzuki Confirms Development of Low-Cost ADAS
In its recent 2026 Technology Strategy Briefing, Suzuki confirmed that it is developing a more cost-effective ADAS suite. This will enable the brand to offer the safety feature on its more affordable, entry-level models too. However, don’t expect fully specced ADAS suites to become standard across the product portfolio. The idea is to democratise the technology while keeping costs in check.
The base models are expected to get a select few core ADAS features such as automatic emergency braking and lane departure prevention. More valuable models will, of course, get ADAS suites with more elaborate autonomous safety assists. Even in entry-level models, ADAS features could be distributed on a variant-to-variant basis. This will allow further cost optimisation of each model.

How Will The Lower-Cost ADAS Work?
Suzuki claims it is working on an ADAS system that could use more high-resolution cameras and AI chips – these will likely eliminate the need for a front radar. Apparently, these two components are more affordable to produce than radars.
The brand has also confirmed that the lower-cost ADAS systems will not compromise on safety – they will be equally or more effective than the currently deployed ADAS systems. Suzuki also said the new ADAS is being developed specifically with Indian driving conditions in mind.
This system is yet to undergo testing. So there are no performance results yet.
When Will It Come To India?
Maruti has not confirmed a timeline or provided any formal confirmation yet. However, whenever it does come to India, we expect the brand’s entry-level models like the WagonR and Celerio to benefit the most. It will also give Maruti a legitimate chance to compete with manufacturers like Tata, which are currently seen as makers of some of the safest cars in India.
