Maruti Suzuki Sells 1.8 Lakh Cars in August, Exports Surge Despite Domestic Dip

Maruti Suzuki reported sales of 1,80,683 units in August 2025, marking a slight decline of 0.6% compared to August last year. Domestic sales slowed down this time while exports surged sharply, proving that Maruti’s global push is repaying.

Domestic sales for passenger cars dropped 8.24% to 1,31,278 units, small cars like the Alto K10 and S-Presso faced a 35.64% decline, indicating that demand in the entry-level market is weakening, popular models like Baleno, Swift, WagonR, Dzire, and Ignis saw a 2.66% rise with 59,597 units sold and SUVs such as the Brezza, Jimny, Grand Vitara, and XL6 recorded a 13.78% dip, selling 54,043 units.

Maruti’s exports were at the silver lining, jumping 40.5% to 36,538 units in August. We believe this growth will continue, especially with the upcoming e-Vitara which is locally produced electric SUV, is set to hit foreign markets soon. From April to August FY25-26, Maruti sold 8,89,070 units, which is a 1.1% increase over the same period last year. Exports during this time rised 37%, reaching 1,65,255 units. With the festive season demand expected to pick up soon, Maruti will aim to recover domestic numbers while riding the export wave.

Meanwhile, Maruti’s competitor Hyundai Motor India reported a drop in domestic sales for August 2025. Last month, the company’s domestic sales of 44,001 units fell 11.16 percent from 49,525 units in August 2024. Exports, on the other hand, increased 20.87 percent year over year to 16,500 units from 13,650 units in the same month the previous year. In August 2025, Hyundai sold 60,501 units total (domestic plus exports), a 4.23 percent decrease from the 63,175 units sold in August 2024.
