Maruti Suzuki Baleno Vs Toyota Glanza – Same Car Or Worth Paying More?

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza are available in the market with the same engines and features, but with different prices, brands and benefits.

This is important for buyers in India because these cars are essentially the same, but at different price points. So, the choice boils down to whether the  experience and warranties are worth the premium. When you look at both cars, they are in the premium hatchback segment, so you need to understand the differences in terms of price, features, and benefits before you buy.

Price And Variant Differences

The price of the Baleno hatchback ranges from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.10 lakh. The Toyota Glanza, on the other hand, retails from Rs 6.46 lakh and the price goes up to Rs 9.44 lakh for the top-of-the line variant. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom figures.
The Baleno is hence priced slightly lower than the Glanza. This makes it a more accessible option for buyers. When it comes to variants, there is no significant difference. The cars have similar variants but it is important to note that there is a minor change in nomenclature.

Engine And Performance

Both cars have the same 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces the same power and torque output at 88.50 hp and 113 Nm, respectively. The gearbox options offered are a 5-speed manual and an AMT. Both models also come in CNG options.
In terms of mileage, the figures are similar since both cars have the same underpinnings. The petrol variants deliver a claimed mileage of 22.35 kmpl for MT and 22.94 kmpl for AT. The CNG versions claim a mileage of 30.61 km/kg.
In practical terms, the performance of both cars is the same. Therefore, it is not something to consider when looking to buy a car.

Features And Technology

The Baleno and Glanza hatchbacks also offer near-identical feature lists. This includes a touchscreen infotainment system, wireless connectivity, a 360-degree camera, head-up display along with connected car tech.
Interior layout, materials as well as space are also the same. Differences are limited to minor cosmetic changes like badge placement and colour options.
Both models enhance their safety quotient with elements like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC) and other standard safety features.
Ownership experience and value are the factors where the key difference lies. Toyota offers a longer standard warranty and a reputation for consistent service quality. Maruti Suzuki, on the other hand, has a wider service network and generally lower maintenance costs.

Which One Should You Choose?

If your priority is lower upfront cost and easier service access the Maruti Suzuki Baleno makes more sense. If you value extended warranty and Toyota’s ownership experience then the Toyota Glanza may justify its premium.
