In India, the premium hatchbacks are not just meant to offer premium features and fancy looks. But fuel efficiency, rather than mileage, becomes a very important aspect from the consumer’s view. Maruti has already mentioned that they are working on a series-hybrid powertrain. This technology is expected to make it into their compact car lineup, including the Fronx and Baleno. With Maruti’s hybrid tech popular in premium hatches, the Baleno could become more fuel-efficient. That being said, here is everything you need to know about this upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno Hybrid-
Looks-

From the spyshots of the camouflage Baleno, we know that Maruti is preparing to offer notable cosmetic changes while retaining the Baleno’s overall silhouette. The Baleno Hybrid is expected to receive a redesigned front grille, sharper LED headlights, and revised bumpers, resulting in a fresher look. At the rear, the spyshot reveals very few changes- Maruti could add the Hybrid badging to the rear. With this hybrid hatch, we can also expect a newer alloy wheel design.
Interiors & Features-

The features, including electrically adjustable ORVMs, push-button start, heads-up display, 360-degree parking camera, cruise control and a 9-inch infotainment system, are expected to remain the same with the Baleno Hybrid as well. However, Maruti can add some additional features with the update, including a wireless charger and an electric sunroof.

Maruti has been working extensively to improve the safety of its products, as is evident in its latest offerings. Even though the current generation of the Baleno only secured a 4-star safety rating at Bharat NCAP, Maruti is expected to improve it with the update. Now comes the most interesting bit of the Baleno Hybrid-
Powertrain-

The powertrain offered with the Baleno is one of the major reasons for its impressive sales. Today, the Baleno comes equipped with the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, offered in pure petrol (88.5 bhp & 113 Nm) and CNG (76 bhp & 98.5 Nm) variants. Paired with a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox. With the Baleno Hybrid, the automaker could bring in the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine along with series-hybrid technology. And with this hybrid powertrain, reports predict the Baleno Hybrid could deliver about 35 km/l mileage. Alongside the series hybrid, Maruti could also bring the underbody CNG to the Baleno lineup. What else?
Rivals-
With the launch of the Baleno Hybrid, it will be direct competition to the Toyota Glanza, Hyundai i20 and the Tata Altroz. And with the introduction of the Hybrid in this segment, we could expect other brands to develop this technology as well, setting a new trend.
Expected Launch & Pricing-

While Maruti has been spotted testing their new hybrid technology with the Fronx earlier. That being said, the Fronx could be the first hybrid to feature this tech. Following that, we could expect the Baleno Hybrid to be launched in the first half of 2027. Considering Maruti’s Baleno positioning, the Baleno Hybrid, even with its advanced hybrid tech, is expected to be priced on the affordable side. Baleno Hybrid could be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
