Maruti Escudo SUV Coming This Festive Season? Here’s What You Need To Know

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly preparing to introduce a brand-new compact SUV to the Indian market under the name “Escudo,” reviving a moniker long associated with the international version of the Suzuki Vitara.

While the company has yet to make an official announcement, reports indicate that the new model could arrive by September 2025, just ahead of the festive season. The upcoming SUV, believed to carry the internal codename Y17, is expected to fill the gap between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara in Maruti’s SUV lineup. It is likely to be underpinned by a modified version of Suzuki’s Global C platform, offering a slightly longer wheelbase, possibly with a third row of seating.

Maruti Suzuki Escudo: Design And Features

In terms of styling, spy shots indicate the Escudo to feature a more traditional SUV design. It features design cues from the Grand Vitara with a rear section that takes inspiration from the all-electric e-Vitara. On the features front, the SUV will likely offer a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster. Maruti could also throw in premium equipment such as ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof on the higher-spec trims.

Maruti Suzuki Escudo: Engine Specifications

Under the hood, Maruti is expected to equip the Escudo with its familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, already in use across models like the Grand Vitara and Brezza. Mild-hybrid technology is likely to be standard, along with a choice of 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.

Maruti Suzuki Escudo: Launch And Expected Prices

If launched as expected, the Maruti Suzuki Escudo could carry a starting price of around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as an alternative to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate in the compact SUV segment.
