Maruti Dzire scores 5 star Bharat NCAP safety rating

The latest-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire has achieved a 5-star rating in crash tests carried out by Bharat NCAP (New Car Safety Assessment Program).

As the first sedan to undergo Bharat NCAP testing, the Dzire pulled off an impressive performance, scoring 29.46 out of 32 points in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 41.57 out of 49 points in child occupant protection (COP). Notably, the Dzire also scored 5 stars in Global NCAP testing last year.

BNCAP tested the Dzire’s base LXI trim, which comes equipped with a robust safety suite comprising 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all occupants, reverse parking sensors, overspeed alerts, rear defogger, and more. This list is consistent among all Dzire trim levels, so the 5-star rating extends to the full variant line-up.

Frontal offset deformable barrier test: 14.17/16 points

After subjecting the Dzire to the frontal offset deformable barrier test, protection of the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and feet was rated ‘good’, while the chest and tibias scored ‘marginal’ and ‘adequate,’ respectively. Protection of the co-driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and left tibia received a ‘good’ rating, but chest and right tibia protection was marked ‘adequate’.

Side movable deformable barrier test: 15.29/16 points

For the side pole impact test, all parts of the driver were granted a ‘good’ score. This held true for the side movable deformable barrier test as well, aside from an ‘adequate’ rating for chest protection.

Dynamic score: 23.57/24 points

Child restraint system (CRS) installation score: 12/12 points

Vehicle assessment score: 6/13 points

The Dzire scored 23.57 points in the dynamic test when using child restraint systems. For both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummy’s side protection, the compact sedan received a full 4 out of 4 dynamic score. Frontal protection to the 18-month-old dummy stood at 8 out of 8, while the 3-year-old scored 7.57 out of 8.

Segment-first safety rating

As mentioned previously, the Dzire is the first sedan to have gone through the BNCAP ringer, giving it a home front advantage compared to primary rivals like the Hyundai AuraTata Tigor, and Honda Amaze. Of these compact sedans, the in 2021, while the Aura and latest-gen Amaze have yet to be crash-tested by an independent authority.
