Manoj Jaranran on OBC Reservation Maratha: Manoj Jarange warned to implement GR for the Marathi community in Maharashtra by 17 September. 96% of demands in the movement fulfilled, reservation is ensured, conflict continues.
Maratha Reservation Maharashtra: Social worker Manoj Jarage, who has shown activeness about Marathi reservation in Maharashtra, warned the government on Monday that if the state government does not issue a Kumbhi caste certificate for the Marathi community till 17 September, he would be forced to take “rigid decisions”.
Jarang said that 96 percent of his demands have been fulfilled, but they will continue the fight for “complete justice” until the community gets reservation.
Movement continues after 5 days of hunger strike
Manoj Jarange ended its hunger strike for five days in Mumbai on 2 September, when the government announced to set up a committee to issue a Kumbhi caste certificate. Kumbhi Samaj is included in the OBC category in Maharashtra and after getting the certificate, members of the Martha community will be able to avail reservation in government jobs and education.
Jarang said, “We hope that the government will initiate proceedings at the taluka level according to GR and the certificate distribution process will start before September 17. If this does not happen, I have to take drastic steps.”

Cumbership certificate and reservation dispute
OBC leader and Nationalist Congress Party MLA Chhagan Bhujbal, who opposed the Maratha reservation, has opposed the move. Jarang warned that if there was a ban at any level or GR was not implemented, then the GR of 1994 would be challenged which had earlier given reservation to other sections.
Marathwada liberation day is celebrated on 17 September. This day is a symbol of merger of Hyderabad state in India and liberation from Nizam rule.
Gratitude and support of Jarang towards the community
Manoj Jarange returned to his village Interwali Sarati, where the community welcomed him warmly. He said, “This movement is a victory of poor maraths and women. Women strengthened the movement in the whole of Maharashtra. We have achieved 96 percent of the demands and reservation has been ensured.”
He further said that his struggle will continue until all the demands are met and the future of the Maratha community is not secured. Jarang told that his next strategic step will be announced at the Navratri/Durga Puja rally. He assured the community that there should not be any kind of concern about reservation.
