Marnus Labuschagne is set to be available for a couple of Division Two fixtures of the County Championship in the second half of May for Glamorgan.
He was recently confirmed for the home fixtures against Northamptonshire and Middlesex.
The ace Australian batter will step in for Colin Ingram as one of the two overseas players in the XI. Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando is the other overseas player. This comes ahead of Australia’s World Test Championship final against South Africa, scheduled to be held in June.
Glamorgan’s Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace, was excited about Labuschagne’s involvement shortly.
“It’s great to have Marnus returning to the club again. He’s very much part of the furniture here and we’re looking forward to welcoming him back to Wales for a couple of games. Although it’s only for a short period, it will allow Colin to have a break and recharge before the [T20] Blast [2025],” stated Wallace, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Labuschagne represented Glamorgan in one game last season. He registered scores of 23 and 111 against Middlesex. As for Australia, he recently emerged as a potential candidate as an opener in the national setup. Travis Head is set to drop down the order. Uncertainty revolves around Sam Konstas and whether the selectors would back him with opening the batting in a high-stakes game in foreign conditions for the youngster.
Glamorgan’s season has not gone as per expectations up until now. With two losses and as many draws in the four games played so far, the side would be aiming to fare better in the games to follow. They are slated to take on Kent at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury on Friday, May 9. Glamorgan finished sixth in the Championship the previous season.
