Mark Chapman to miss out on third ODI vs Pakistan due to hamstring injury

Mark Chapman, the New Zealand batter, is set to miss the third and final ODI of the three-match series against Pakistan at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, set to be played on Saturday, April 5, due to a hamstring injury.

After the 30-year-old had to sit out the second ODI because of the same issue, there was an assessment of his fitness, which took place on Friday, April 4, but he was deemed to have sufficiently recovered to play in the last match of the summer in New Zealand.

Notably, the hamstring injury was picked up by Mark Chapman during the first ODI of the three-match series in the field after scoring a hundred for New Zealand, which allowed them to register a 73-run win over Pakistan. At the McLean Park in Napier, the left-handed middle order batter smashed 132 runs, his career best returns in ODI format, in just 111 balls with 13 fours and six maximums.

Tim Seifert will stay in New Zealand squad as cover for Mark Chapman for third ODI

In the absence of Mark Chapman, New Zealand were just as effective as a unit, winning the second ODI by 84 runs at the Seddon Park in Hamilton, to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Tim Seifert, who is already included in the New Zealand squad as the cover of Mark Chapman, will stay with the team ahead of the third and final ODI of the series, and he might get an opportunity to play as well.

While Tim Seifert hasn’t played an ODI match for the BlackCaps for over five years, the right-handed batter was in sensational form with the bat in the recently concluded T20I series against Pakistan, which they won 4-1. He scored 249 runs at the top of the order for the national team at a sensational strike-rate of 207.50 with the highest score of 97*, and for that, he was given the player of the series award.
