Enzo Maresca discussed the uncertain future of Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the transfer window.
The Senegalese forward faced limited playtime at the Club World Cup following a red card against Flamengo. He missed the final against Paris Saint-Germain as Joao Pedro and Liam Delap took centre stage.
Since joining Chelsea for the 2023-24 season, Jackson has netted 24 goals and provided 10 assists in 65 Premier League appearances. His goal-scoring rate stands at one every 210 minutes, with a conversion rate of 15.4%. Newcastle has shown interest in him as they look to replace Alexander Isak, who is keen on moving to Liverpool.
Maresca did not dismiss the possibility of Jackson leaving before the new Premier League season begins. “When the transfer window is open, unfortunately or fortunately, anything can happen. This also involves Nico’s situation,” he stated. With Joao Pedro and Liam Delap now part of the squad, Chelsea’s attacking options have expanded.
Newcastle faces challenges in their transfer pursuits. They are likely to miss out on Benjamin Sesko, who is nearing a move to Manchester United. Meanwhile, Yoane Wissa’s future at Brentford remains uncertain. These developments add complexity to Newcastle’s plans for strengthening their squad.
Colwill’s Injury Update
Maresca also provided an update on Levi Colwill, who sustained an injury during training earlier this week. “It was in the first session on Monday, just in the last minutes of the session,” Maresca explained. The extent of Colwill’s absence remains unknown as they await further assessment.
Reflecting on Colwill’s contribution, Maresca remarked, “I spoke with him yesterday and I told him that if we achieve what we achieved last year, it is also because of him – and he was a main player for us.” This underscores Colwill’s importance to Chelsea’s recent successes.
As Chelsea navigates these developments, they remain focused on preparing for the upcoming season while managing potential changes within their squad.
