South African spinners have started to get some purchase from the Guwahati track, as they hunt down two Indian batters with a considerable amount of slow spin.
In Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal, Marco Jansen hung down and pulled out a very sharp and low catch.
Unlike the Indian spinners, who complained that the pitch did not much favouring bowling, South African spinners bowled and decoded the formula for picking wickets up on this comparatively less helpful tract. It was noted that the Eden Gardens pitch lacked bounce, and Guwahati has enough of it.
Marco Jansen takes a low-sitter to dismiss opener Yashasvi Jaiswal
The South African spinners came into the attack after 12 overs between the two seamers. Yashasvi Jaiswal attacked the spinners initially; however, after some carnage and a half-century partnership for the opening pair, Keshav Maharaj became the first bowler to have decoded the trick.
South African spinners started getting a remarkable amount of spin whenever they bowled slower through the air. Harmer too landed the ball outside off-stump, slower through the air, and Jaiswal stepped back deep into his crease, trying to rock it back through the cover region.
However, the ball almost hung in the air and took a thick outside edge, and Marco Jansen took a sharp, low catch, diving forward from the point region. Jaiswal’s fine innings came to an end with India trailing by more than 394 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scores first half-century against South Africa
Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal once again impressed with his dynamic batting performance and his flawless striking power backed by his rock-solid defensive work rate. Yashasvi Jaiswal amassed 58 runs before being dismissed off an absolute jaffa.
With seven fours and a six off Simon Harmer’s bowling, Jaiswal scored his first-ever half-century against the Proteas. In this attempt, he also scored the first half-century for an Indian player in the series.
No other Indian player has even gone past the 40-run mark as of now, and Jaiswal scored the first half-century, while South Africa has half-centurions Temba Bavuma and Marco Jansen, and Senuran Muthusamy scored his maiden Test hundred as well.
Proteas command first session on Day 3
The session began with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal continuing to flaunt their defensive work rate against the likes of Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jansen. Troubled by the accurate line from Mulder and the variations in length from Jansen, they could not manage to score many runs, yet survived.
Runs started coming once Jaiswal started taking on the spinners and brought his sweeps out. However, the spinners soon got their grip and lowered the pace, which resulted in the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul.
Later, Sai Sudharsan too fell off Harmer’s bowling with a tremendous effort from Rickelton, and then Dhruv Jurel was dismissed while playing one of the most bizarre pull shots of Marco Jansen’s bowling. Until Tea on Day 3, India was four wickets down.
