MThe heavy rains in Rathwada for the last few days have made people’s lives difficult. Latur, Beed, Dharashiv and Parbhani districts of Maharashtra have been flooded. So far, eight people have died and many houses and thousands of hectares of crops have been ruined. Other ministers, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, are visiting the affected areas and taking stock of relief works.
Rain havoc in Marathwada: Why did so much destruction?
The continuous rains since September 20 have caused heavy damage to eight districts of Marathwada. 159 villages were affected in Dharashiva, 186 animals were killed and many areas were submerged. Three people died in Latur, two in Beed and eight in other districts due to different reasons. Water had to be released due to flooding of dams, causing crops and houses to be damaged.
Crops and Homes: How much waste?
In eight districts of Marathwada, crops on more than 33,010 hectares have been destroyed. The problems of farmers have increased and their employment has had a big impact. There was waterlogging overnight in Pathri area of Parbhani. Many families had to go to safe places and their homes suffered heavy losses.
NDRF action: How many people were saved?
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued 27 people in Dharashiv district and brought 200 people to safe places. This shows that disaster management needs to be accelerated in Marathwada.
Minister and CM visit: How long will relief work last?
Chief Minister Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Health Minister, Transport Minister and Agriculture Minister are visiting the affected areas.
