Manipur government formation buzz grows as BJP calls NDA MLAs to Delhi

New Delhi: Political activity has picked up over the formation of a new government in Manipur, with the BJP high command summoning all NDA legislators from the state to Delhi on Wednesday.

Last push for government

According to sources, the meeting will focus on exploring the possibility of forming a government before President’s Rule ends on February 13. The move is seen as a last-ditch effort to restore an elected government in the state within the stipulated timeframe.

If consensus is reached, Manipur could see a new government in place within a week.

The move comes at a sensitive juncture for Manipur, which has been under President’s Rule since February 2025, with the state assembly currently kept in suspended animation. The central rule is set to complete one year on February 12.

Speculation mounts in Delhi

Although the BJP’s central leadership has not formally revealed the purpose of the meeting, the sudden and wide-ranging call to legislators has sparked speculation over possible political reshuffles, governance-related decisions, or a broader strategy for the state.

Analysts say the timing of the discussions is critical, given the extended phase of political and administrative uncertainty in Manipur. Lawmakers and party leaders are closely tracking the developments in Delhi, amid expectations that the talks could shape the state’s political direction in the coming period.
