A35-year-old man died in a Delhi hospital on Tuesday, two days after he was allegedly stabbed by a chhole bhature vendor in Nihal Vihar.
The argument began when he asked for an extra serving of chhole, police said.
The victim, Sandeep, worked as a private car driver.
He was attacked near Jwalapuri Nala on Sunday night. The accused, Chintu Gupta, has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Police have added a murder charge after Sandeep’s death.
A senior police officer said Sandeep went to the stall on Sunday night and ordered a plate. After he got his food, he asked for some more chhole.
The vendor allegedly refused, and the two argued. In the heat of it, Gupta allegedly picked up a knife from his cart and stabbed Sandeep several times in the abdomen.
Sandeep was first taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital and later moved to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh, where he died on Tuesday.
His medico-legal report records three stab wounds on the left side of the abdomen, along with injuries to the left forearm and wrist.
An FIR was first registered at Paschim Vihar West police station under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which covers attempted murder.
After Sandeep died, police added Section 103(1), the murder provision.
Sandeep’s father, Bijender Singh, said his son had gone to a Sunday market in the area to eat chhole bhature. He alleged that the vendor abused Sandeep when he asked for more, and that a scuffle followed.
Singh also claimed that more than one person took part in the attack and has asked police to identify and arrest everyone responsible.
Police said the investigation is on and that the role of others is being examined. Sandeep is survived by his parents, his wife and two children, aged about four and 10.
