In a bizarre twist of grief and revenge, a man in Maharashtra’s Nagpur allegedly went on a spree of robbing liquor outlets not for profit, but to settle a personal score. Enraged over his father’s death from alcohol addiction, he is accused of stealing from at least eight wine shops and bars across the city.
The case came to light on 31 July, when a theft was reported at a bar in Nagpur. The owner, Nilesh Devani, claimed losses of around Rs 40,000, which included Rs 36,000 in cash along with several packets of cigarettes. Acting on his complaint, police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and identified the suspect as Raja Khan.
According to police, Khan’s grudge traces back to his father’s demise a few years ago. His father, a habitual drinker, had been a regular at local bars and wine shops, which Khan reportedly blamed for his death. NDTV reported that this resentment pushed him to repeatedly target such establishments.

“The police analysed CCTV footage and in the CCTV footage we saw that the thief was of a small build, and he lifted the shutter and got in. We then apprehended him and questioned him,” a police official said.
During interrogation, Khan allegedly confessed to his motive. “When we questioned him, he said his father had died due to drinking and his father used to frequent wine shops and bars. To avenge his father’s death, he steals from bars. He admitted he had targeted other wine shops and bars as well,” the officer added.
