Mammootty, who added a fourth National Film Award win for the film Bramayugam to his name earlier this week, is now speaking out to add his support to the student protests across the nation. The veteran actor from the Malayalam industry took to social media to share a short note about the protests which have taken place in several major cities across the nation, including the capital, New Delhi, and its financial centre, Mumbai. Mammootty’s son, actor Dulquer Salmaan, had posted about the protest on July 22, 2026, joining many others from the Malayalam film industry who were sharing their support for the youngsters.
Mammootty backs protesting students on X
The veteran actor, who also received a last month, posted on X (formerly Twitter), “The youth are the true treasure of our nation. Listen to their voices. Protect them. Empower them.” Mammootty followed his son Dulquer in commenting about the students’ protest after the NEET exam leak. Many actors and filmmakers from the Malayalam industry also spoke about the protest this week.

They include stars such as Tovino Thomas, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Vismaya Mohanlal. Other actors were Nazriya Nazim, Rima Kallingal, Soubin Shahir, Indrajith Sukumaran, Rajisha Vijayan and Kunchacko Boban, among others. In fact, the Malayalam film industry was one of the first to speak up about the ongoing protests by young people in the country.

Earlier in the week, the Sita Ramam star had expressed solidarity with the protestors at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. On his Instagram Stories, the actor wrote, “What’s happening at Jantar Mantar is a reminder to pause, listen, and choose understanding.”

shared that education had always been about hope, opportunity, and the promise of a better future, and it was gut-wrenching to see young people facing uncertainty. He said his heart broke to know that some students felt they had no way forward, and hearing of student suicides had been painful. Parents also had to carry a dual burden of pain and debt to make sure their children’s dreams came true.
“Beyond every opinion are individuals with dreams, aspirations, families, and hopes that deserve compassion and respect,” the actor added. He ended his note hoping for “meaningful dialogue, peaceful resolutions, and decisions guided by wisdom and empathy”, while also wanting “a future built on understanding will always be stronger than one built on division and violence.”
