New Delhi: In a major success in the US trade deal, Washington on Monday agreed to a trade deal with India after moths of discussions between two sides. The US lowerd the Tariff to 18 percent from the previous 25 percent.
Discussions were on for some time
The discussions on the trade deal between two sides was going for some time. Both sides had interacted a number of times for the deal. There was a concern in India over the deal ever since the Trump administration imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India over New Delhi’s purchase of crude oil from Russia. The US had accused India of indirectly strengthening Moscow in its war against Ukraine. The total tariff that the US imposed on India had gone up to 50 percent.
President Trump speaks to PM Modi
Earlier this evening, US President Donald Trump spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Taking to X, US envoy to India Sergio Gor posted a photograph of the the two during Trump’s visit to India in 2020. Gor shared the photo on X, with a message saying, : “STAY TUNED…”
It was the first publicly known interaction between the two leaders this year. It was on December 11 last year that both leaders had previously spoken. Taking to X, Modi had written on X,“Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability, and prosperity.”
