‘s old-world love stories carry the fragrance of India’s deeply-rooted culture, history and a charm that nobody can create other than him.
Sitting on the director’s chair, he tells another tale of the pre-Partition era through Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina and Sharvari. Titled , the film also stars Naseeruddin Shah in an important role. The title announcement and teaser transports to a world that has Imtiaz’s deep character study and the earthiness of young and carefree love that is bound together by a present life thread. Main Vaapas Aaunga is set in Punjab.
The teaser introduces as the voice of the story, which begins with Vedang Raina and Sharvari in the pre-Partition period. Music lays the foundation of an emotional romance that faces socio-political obstacles. Whether this love story ends happily ever after or meets a tragic end, with Vedang declaring, “Main vaapas aaunga,” in the final frame, the teaser keeps it a secret.
Described as a charming tale of love and longing, Main Vaapas Aaunga is releasing in theatres on June 12. It is produced by Applause Entertainment and Window Seat Films. Irshad Kamil reunites with Imtiaz for the lyrics.
