Do not offer these things in Shiva puja on Mahashivratri

  • Shivlinga is not worshiped like the worship of ordinary idols. Blowing the conch or offering water from the conch is completely prohibited in the worship of Mahadev. According to mythology, the origin of the conch is believed to be from a demon Shankhachud. Shankhchund was ended by Mahadev. This is the reason why conch is prohibited in Shiva worship.
  • Mahadev is a recluse, hence turmeric, kumkum or vermillion should not be applied on Shivalinga. These things can be used in the worship of Mother Parvati.
  • Lord Shiva is very fond of Belpatra, but torn Belpatra should never be offered in Shiva worship. According to the scriptures, on the day of Mahashivratri, unbroken Belpatra with three leaves should be offered to Shivalinga.
  • No flowers are offered to Lord Shiva in his worship. Ketaki, Kaner, lotus and basil leaves should not be offered on Shivalinga. In its place, Belpatra, Dhatura, Bhang and Shami Patra should be offered.
  • On the day of Mahashivratri, broken rice (broken rice) should not be offered to Shivalinga. The intact should be complete and clean.
