Maharashtra Government Declares Additional Diwali Holiday In Mumbai On November 9

The Maharashtra Government has announced an additional local holiday on November 9, 2026, for state government and semi-government offices across Mumbai.

The decision has been taken in view of the Diwali festivities and will be applicable to establishments located in Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts. The announcement was made through an official government circular issued in the name of the Governor of Maharashtra. With this declaration, employees working in the concerned government offices will get an additional day off during the festive period. The latest notification supplements the list of local holidays previously announced for Mumbai’s government establishments.

November 9 Holiday Added To Existing Local Holiday List

The newly declared holiday is in addition to two local holidays previously approved by the Maharashtra Government for government and semi-government offices in Mumbai. These holidays were announced for Gopalkala, popularly celebrated as Dahi Handi, and Anant Chaturdashi. Through a circular dated October 8, 2026, the state government had declared September 5, 2026, a local holiday on account of Gopalkala. Similarly, another notification issued on August 28, 2026, had designated September 28, 2026, as a holiday for Anant Chaturdashi. The latest decision extends the additional holiday provision to Diwali celebrations.
