The elections, held after a gap of eight years, were an important civic exercise for Mumbai. The last BMC elections were held in 2017, while the tenure of the previous elected mayor, Kishori Pednekar, ended in March 2022. With the elections over, Mumbai is going to get a new mayor after almost four years. Out of total 1,03,44,315 voters in the voter list, a total of 54,76,043 exercised their franchise. While in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party at that time, the alliance had achieved half the figure of 114 seats, of which the BJP had won 82 seats.
